Tom 'Big Al' Schreiter teaches you how to succeed in MLM and network marketing by learning a few basic network marketing skills. http://www.sponsorfastwithbigal.comAre you mystified by your MLM business?  No clue what to do next? Bewildered by the barrage of jargon and mumbo jumbo from the gurus and experts and mlm rock stars and heavy hitters? Terrified of talking to people?

If you’re a cryptic crossword fan, you’ll know it’s the same feeling you had when you looked at your first puzzle.

To the inexperienced solver, cryptic crosswords can seem like complete nonsense.  Even with the solution, you can be totally lost as to how the clues could possibly lead to those answers!

Your friend explains, but it’s still like listening to Lutonian or reading Russian.

It’s the same feeling you get when you watch leaders talk to people comfortably and sponsor them effortlessly!  What are they doing that you are not?

Let’s look for some answers …

Our favorite source of cryptic crosswords is The Toronto Globe and Mail.

Here are some ways your MLM business is like a cryptic puzzle:

1.  It’s scary.  When you first look at it, you think you’ll never be able to figure it out.  Hang in there, learn the skills, and you’ll soon be solving and succeeding!

2.  It’s not for everyone.  Some people have no interest and some hate it.  Your job is to find people who like it.  People who are looking for more and ready to do something about it.

The best way to learn who your prospects are is to listen to ‘Needs vs. Wants’. Everbody needs better health and more money, but not everyone wants these things enough to do something about it.  Your prospects are the ones who want.

3. There are rules to follow.  Once you know how a clue is put together, you have a better chance of solving the next one.

Here’s just one of dozens of pages to get you started:

The first thing to know is that a clue has two parts – a definition and some word-play, and nothing else.  Take a look at 13 across “To be paid nothing to fly”. Nothing is O and fly is wing, giving the answer “owing.”  Ouch.  Corny, no?

There are rules to follow with your MLM business.  The first ones to learn are in your company’s policies and procedures – what you can and cannot do.

Your company will rarely tell you the rules of recruiting.  Rules like “Don’t Firehose!”  To learn the unwritten rules that will increase your success rate, you have to look to people experienced in the field who will give you good advice.

4.  It only hurts for a little while.  The more you do, the better you get and the more you get.

5.  You don’t have to get them all.  You can miss a few and still have fun and feel successful.  And every one you miss teaches you something new, so you are learning all the time.  Can you imagine the size of your team if you sponsored even 1% of the people you talked to?

6.  You have to learn a new language.  Who would have guessed that ‘free of charge’ (27 Across) meant ‘exonerate’?  Your MLM prospects are like that.  They will tell you one thing and mean something completely different:

“Sure, I’d love to come to your opportunity meeting!  I’ll be there tonight for sure!  I can’t wait!”  This really means ” ………. ”  (Fill in the blank.)

If you’d like to learn how to speak to your prospects and find out what they really mean, you’ll want to learn The Secret Language of Prospects.

7.  You don’t need to know a good solver/sponsor.  You can learn to do this online.  Here’s another guide to solving cryptic puzzles from Wikihow.

Most MLMers are sponsored by people who know less than they do.  Don’t make the mistake of relying on your sponsor or upline or company for advice in how to sponsor.  The best place to go for online network marketing advice is the forum of MLM professionals (including Big Al!) at
