Tom 'Big Al' Schreiter teaches you how to succeed in MLM and network marketing by learning a few basic network marketing skills. A while back we wrote an article called “How Far Can You Row A Leaky Boat?

We’ve talked to thousands of people about their MLM compensation plans, and have analyzed over a thousand companies on the basis of The 10k Question For Network Marketers.

We’ve been constantly amazed at how distributors will say that the most important thing for them is the money, and yet choose companies that pay poorly.

Most people join someone they know, like and trust, and give little thought to what they will need to do to succeed.  They’ll get paralyzed by the product or the parties or mesmerized by the march of the millionaires at convention or get comfy with their like-minded company companions.  It’s easy to settle into the groove of poverty, plodding along penniless to the tune of the company song.

It’s time for us to grow up, stop being amazed, and just accept the fact that (as Big Al says) “Facts mean nothing!”

People make decisions based on emotion and excitement, and will rationalize them later with whatever facts come to hand.

We call it joining the Cross Your Fingers Club, and we speak from experience.

Seth Godin has updated our analogy with “The Wrong Bus”

Your first mistake was getting on the A53 bus, the one that goes crosstown instead of to where you’re going.

Mistakes like this happen all the time.

The big mistake, though, the one that will cost you, is staying on that bus.

I know it wasn’t easy to get on the bus. I know you got a seat. I know it’s getting dark outside. But you’re on the wrong bus, and staying on the wrong bus won’t make it the right bus.

If you really want to get where you set out to go, you’re going to have to get off the wrong bus.

If you’re a commuter, you can look up to the front of the bus and check the number.  If the A53 won’t get you where you’re going, you can get a transfer, hop off, head back to the terminal and board the B22 which WILL get you to your destination.  All you’ve lost is some time.

But if you’re on an MLM bus, the number you need to check is the answer to the 10k question, “How many active people do I need on my team to generate a walk-away residual income of $10000 a month?”

  • If your company’s answer is over 3000, you need to get back to the terminal and choose a better bus.
  • If the answer is 2000 to 3000, you are in an average company, and you will be struggling along with the majority of network marketers.
  • If the answer is 1000 to 2000, congratulations, as you’ve found a modern progressive company that pays its distributors fairly.
  • If the answer is less than 1000, you’ve hit the jackpot!  Your company is among the very few that treat their distributors with dignity and respect, and pays them extremely well for their efforts.
