Tom ‘Big Al’ Schreiter is a master at creating simple sentences and stories that appeal directly to the subconscious, where all the decisions are made …
The conscious brain is the size of a pea. The subconscious is the size of a hotel. Decisions are made by the subconscious and rationalized by logic.
He gave us several methods of appealing to a prospect’s subconscious, but that word picture stayed with us most vividly.
Napoleon Hill has a more long-winded version …
Any impulse of thought which is repeatedly passed on to the subconscious mind is, finally, accepted and acted upon by the subconscious mind, which proceeds to translate that impulse into its physical equivalent, by the most practical procedure available.
And we like Robert Anthony’s simple explanation …
The job of the subconscious is to prove you right.
If you tell your subconscious you are a failure, your subconscious will find things to prove you right. If you tell it often enough that you are successful, it will put you in situations where you can succeed.
Picture your subconscious as King Kong, a twenty ton gorilla. Your conscious brain is Speedy Gonzales riding around in Kong’s ear.
If Speedy says …
Greengo Bob is fat!
Kong responds with …
Hmm … Speedy say Bob fat … must prove Speedy right … must find pizza and beer for Bob … hmm … must keep Bob away from gym … Speedy right … Bob fat!
Now if I train Speedy to tell Kong something more useful, like Greengo Bob is successful and already possesses his goals, things should go much better. Kong will now say …
Hmm … Speedy say Bob rich … must prove Speedy right … must find riches for Bob … must find successful people for Bob to meet … must find opportunities for Bob … Speedy right … Bob rich … Bob successful!
It’s easy to let Speedy think Bob is a failure, but tougher to make Speedy think that Bob is a success. We are surrounded by negativity all the time, and we tell ourselves negative things that we would never allow others to say to us.
We have to turn that process around. We have to start feeding Speedy POSITIVE things to pass on to Kong.
Whether you call it self talk or meditation or affirmations, you have to constantly support and encourage yourself to counteract all the negative forces around you that conspire to bring you down.
If you are reading books or listening to tapes and CD’s or watching TV or movies, make sure they are positive influences in your life that move you closer to becoming the person you need to be to achieve your goals.
Every week we join our Mentoring For Free ‘Mental Cleanse’ for an hour to discuss a chapter from “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill.
The Mental Cleanse, hosted by Michael Dlouhy, is a mastermind group as Hill recommends – in this case, a group of everyday people helping each other succeed in network marketing, following Hill’s steps to riches.
The Mental Cleanse is changing lives, and we invite you to join us.
Start with your free copy of Success in Ten Steps. We will contact you and show you how to get your free copy of Think and Grow Rich, and how to get started on your own ‘mental cleanse’!
We look forward to helping you any way we can.
